Start with the calendar
Christmas, Ramadan, Lunar New Year, Mother's Day: every season has a window. For goods made in China, design is usually approved months before the season, production follows, and shipping takes weeks more. Late sets miss the moment and end up discounted.
Build the story
The best sets answer a simple question: who is this for? A coffee lover, a new home, a first baby. Choose two to four items that clearly belong together, and a price that fits the occasion.
Box, insert and finish
Most of the perceived value comes from presentation: a rigid or magnetic box, an insert that holds every item in place, and one premium finish such as foil or embossing. Approve a complete sample of the set, filled with the real products.
- Rigid or magnetic box for premium sets.
- Window boxes for shelf display.
- Moulded pulp or card inserts for a plastic-free set.
- A card or sleeve that tells the story.
Assemble at the source
Collecting items from different factories and assembling the sets in China saves shipping volume and handling costs at destination. Each set arrives labelled, barcoded and ready for the shelf.
Pricing a gift set
A gift set should feel like good value compared with buying the items separately, while protecting your margin. Add up the cost of every item, the box and insert, assembly and the extra freight volume. Packaging can be a large share of the cost, so design it early rather than at the end.
After the season
Not every set sells out. Plan quantities from last year's real sales rather than hope, and keep the season on the sleeve or card, not printed on the products themselves. Then unsold items can be repacked as everyday sets or sold separately instead of being discounted to nothing.
